In Brazil’s Pará state, small-scale farmers are using digital tools to transition toward sustainable agroecology and combat deforestation. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)– in partnership with the Alliance of Bioversity International, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and Solidaridad Latin America, is piloting Solis, a mobile app developed by Solidaridad Latin America.
This would provide farmers with real-time access to technical knowledge, sustainable farming techniques, and peer support. This initiative aims to empower farmers to adopt regenerative livestock practices that boost incomes while preserving the Amazon.
Through Solis, extension workers create work plans, and farmers share best practices via engaging videos on topics like rotational grazing and pest control. The platform not only bridges knowledge gaps but also fosters a dynamic online community where farmers learn from each other’s experiences. By integrating technology with traditional farming wisdom, Solis is ensuring that smallholder farmers are at the forefront of a more sustainable agricultural future.
