Three PH radio stations celebrate World Radio Day 2025

In celebration of  World Radio Day 2025 last February 13, radio stations from three constituent campuses of the University of the Philippines (UP) in Southeast Asia aired talk shows tackling the role of radio in addressing climate change.

At UP Los Baños (UPLB), Radyo DZLB Ang Tinig ng Kaunlaran aired a DZLB Online! Specials episode, emphasizing how local radio can raise awareness and engage communities in climate action. The episode featured insights from experts in forestry and natural resources, stressing the importance of accessible and localized climate information through community media.

Meanwhile, at the UP Diliman, UP Atin ‘To! on DZUP 1602 also tackled the power of community radio in climate discourse, emphasizing how radio stations can hyperlocalize climate change and disaster mitigation efforts. By tailoring content to specific communities, radio remains a crucial tool in educating and mobilizing the public against climate challenges.

Finally, at the UP Visayas (UPV) Miagao, DYUP 102.7 FM also aired an episode featuring guests from the United Kingdom and Ireland, who shared insights and experiences on how radio can effectively raise awareness and drive action on climate issues from a global perspective. The constituent university also won the COPEAM World Radio Day 2025 Contest for its radio documentary titled “The Seawalls of Miagao.”
