The Asia-Pacific Development Communication Centre (ADCC) in Bangkok, Thailand, offers a Communication for Development (C4D) course from 24 June to 05 July 2013 and from 21 October to 01 November 2013.

This 10-days course is intended to clarify the concepts of C4D with emphasis on how cultural, social, economic and political factors influence the individual’s choices and behaviour in relation to health, prevention of diseases and health seeking behaviours.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe various components of Communication for Development (C4D)
  • Understand the use of C4D and develop skills for Policy Advocacy
  • Identify substantial elements of the cultural, social, political and economic factors underlying health behaviour and behaviour change
  • Analyse behavioural aspects of health problems, the context, target groups and their social environments as well as the target groups’ use of various types of media including social media
  • Explain strategic use of mass and interpersonal communication techniques and media in health programmes;
  • Select the most appropriate means of communication and media, and design messages and materials based on research and analysis;
  • Plan C4D strategies for the improvement of health of targeted population groups

The course will include in-house sessions, case studies, individual and group presentations and practical assignments. C4D specialists will be invited to share their perspectives and experiences and a field trip might be conducted to observe hands-on cases.
