Home

Humanitarian and development agencies are using communication technology and media channels to respond more efficiently and be themselves more accountable to people affected by conflict and disasters.

Communications with People in Crisis: Collaborating with the local technology & media sector is a two-day event organized by Adeso, OCHA & CDAC Network on December 6-7 2012 in Nairobi. It will bring together key members of the technology and humanitarian/development communities to improve mutual understanding, explore opportunities for collaboration, and foster working partnerships

The event is aimed at people who want to:

  • Learn how traditional media and new technology can be used in humanitarian/development work by sharing practical examples and discussing real experiences.
  • Better understand the operating environment during times of crisis and examine which tools can be used
  • Learn why communication with communities before, during, and after a sudden onset disaster hits is so important.
  • Learn about the benefits and challenges of collaboration between the public/humanitarian/development sector and the private/technology sector.
  • Begin conversations, initiate ideas and improve mutual understanding for future collaborations.
  • Contribute to the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities (CDAC) Network’s directory of tools and service providers to help humanitarians practitioners integrate this in their work.

It is the first spin-off event from the CDAC-N Media and Tech Fair, held in March 2012, and the focus will be on the collaboration between the humanitarian and development sectors and local technology and media sector in eastern Africa.
