Voice & Matter: Glocal Conference on ComDev

Voice&Matter_red

Voice and Matter is this year’s theme for the 4th Glocal Conference on Communication for Development organized by the Ørecomm Centre for Communication and Glocal Change from 17 to 20 September 2014.

Inspired by Nick Couldry’s book ’Why voice matters – culture and politics after neoliberalism’, the conference will be a venue to discuss how gaining and exercising voice relates directly to critical matters like life conditions, health services, employment, education and environment. And will do so in the context of ComDev theory and practice.

The 4-day event, hosted by Roskilde University (Denmark) and Malmö University (Sweden), will offer a mix of keynotes, paper presentations, workshops, panel discussions, film screenings and exhibitions dealing with:

  • The role of media and communication in the post 2015 agenda
  • Media, empowerment and civic agency
  • Participatory video and interactive documentary
  • Cultural studies and ComDev: remembering Stuart Hall
  • Voice and the return of the politics of hope
  • Political economy of the development industry

Researchers, students, practitioners, authors, artists, filmmakers and entrepreneurs are invited to submit abstracts no later than May 23 2014, on the following themes:

  • New social actors and ICT for development
  • ICT4D without ICT4G?
  • The present and future of development journalism
  • Fiction matters
  • Histories of diaspora
