Symposium of the International Network of ICT4D

The 7th Annual Symposium of the International Network for Postgraduate Students in the area of ICT4D (IPID) will be held 5-6 September, 2012 at University of Agder (UiA), Kristiansand, Norway. IPID is a network of postgraduate students doing research in ICT4D and operates through inter alia support to doctoral and master students and increased visibility at international conferences. The network is administered by the School of Business (Informatics) at the Örebro University and funded by the SPIDER/SIDA.

Like previous years, the 2012 symposium will provide postgraduate researchers with the opportunity to present their work to a diverse audience and gain valuable experience. It is also an opportunity for young scientists to network and engage with international ICT4D scholars . The symposium will consist of two parts – paper presentations and interactive panels focusing on both professional and academic related questions (e.g. getting published, working in the field of ICT4D, ethical and moral issues in ICT4D research and implications/possibilities of ICT for Development). The aim is to have creative and friendly days where we can discuss and help each other.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Bridging the digital divide
• Applications of ICT for development
• Mobile technology for development
• ICTs role in development practice
• Theoretical frameworks
• Methodological applications in ICTD research
• Gender issues and ICT4D
• Evaluation of ICT4D projects and research
• Sustainability and scalability of ICT4D projects

Paper submission

We ask for short papers and are interested in both practical and theoretical papers, completed as well as research in progress. Papers should be submitted in Word format and not exceed 3500 words. All papers will be reviewed by the organizing committee for quality and relevance. Please send your papers to M. Sirajul Islam (sirajul.islam@oru.se). So as to maximise the number of post-graduate papers at the conference, actual presentations will be restricted to 15 minutes.

All accepted papers will be published on the IPID website (http://www.ipid.se or http://www.electronicgovernment.se/ipid/).

Best paper awards

Up to three papers will be selected as the best papers of the symposium. Initial screening will be done by the organizing committee and then a panel of senior researchers within the field will select the best of the short-listed papers.

Panel suggestions

If you would like to convene a panel discussion, please send an email to M. Sirajul Islam (sirajul.islam@oru.se) stating the title of the panel, a short description and suggested panel members.
