Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC)

The Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) is the largest southern NGO. BRAC has organized the isolated poor (especially women and girls) and learned to understand their needs by finding practical ways to increase their access to resources, support their entrepreneurship and empower them to become agents of change. BRAC operates social and human development programs across Asia and Africa, among these, the Rural Development Programme addresses disasters, environment, and climate change.

Capacity Building: In Bangladesh BRAC uses popular theatre and community radio to meet the knowledge and information needs of the rural poor and to promote social participation. BRAC community radio broadcasts on livelihood skills in agriculture, fishery, and small enterprises, women’s and children’s issues, local weather forecasts, etc. Communication skills are at the core of BRAC’s work to ensure the effective engagement of communities and local government.
