The Rural Communication Working Group of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites academic scholars and professionals in the field of rural communication to submit abstracts and proposals for panels for IAMCR 2023 to be held in Lyon, France, from 9 to 13 July (Lyon23), with an Online Conference Papers (OCP23) component from 26 June to 5 July.

ComDev Asia, a regional initiative that promotes Communication for Development (ComDev) in the Asia-Pacific region, held a training on Participatory Video Production and Sharing to enhance the capacities of practitioners, development workers, and family farmers, and their organizations to appropriate and apply basic notions for the participatory use and sharing of video for development purposes.
Eighteen individuals representing seven Southeast Asian countries are learning how to develop and advance inclusive, integrated, and innovative public policies for family farming at the headquarters of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Studies and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines on 7-11 November 2022. The CCComDev Team was able to identify possible collaborations with the the University of Reading (UoR) – School of Agriculture, Policy, and Development during a meeting held on with Dr. Sarah Cardey and Prof. Henny Osbahr on 24 October 2022 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Development Communication.
Small-scale farmers in rural areas positively contribute to the nutrition and health status of the world’s population as they play a huge part in the food production process. However, studies show that some rural segments in different regions are underdeveloped and facing significant challenges because of poor investments on rural development.
Crop science for family farms certainly help the poor gain from globalization. The increase in high-employment farms and crops will promote additional employment, increased productivity, increased food output, and income growth from small-scale family farmers.
The UN Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028 (UNDFF) will host its first Global Forum on 19-22 September 2022, three years after its implementation.
