College of Development Communication (CDC)

The College of Development Communication (CDC) of Los Baños is recognized as the pioneer in the practice and study of development communication in the Asian region. It was the first in 1971 to offer degree programs at the Doctorate, Master’s, and undergraduate degree levels. CDC is home to a vibrant community of learners, teachers, research, and extension staff equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to act as catalysts for social change. The College conducts research on human development and on the processes, elements, and impacts of communication. Likewise, CDC staff undertakes training, research, extension, and other development action projects.

Courses: Bachelor of Science in Development Communication; Master of Science in Development Communication; Master of Development Communication (under the UP Open University); Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Development Communication

CDC programs provide aspiring students a high-level instruction in the study and practice of development communication. They tackle in greater depth and breadth the synergistic relationship between communication and development. Aspects of development communication that the CDC has extensively explored include Development Journalism; Development Broadcasting and Telecommunication; Educational Communication; Science Communication   Strategic Communication, and Health Communication. The Master’s course is also offered in an open distance learning modality.
