The Pan-African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) attended the Dakar 2 Summit – “Feeding Africa: Food Sovereignty and Resilience” (#AfricaFoodSummitDakar2). The three-day Summit was hosted by His Excellency Mr Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal and the Chairperson of the African Union, and co-hosted by the African Development Bank Group. Held on 25-27 January 2023 in Dakar, Senegal, the Summit brought together Governments, Private Sector, Multilateral Organizations, NGOs, and scientists to meet the escalating challenge of food security in Africa.
PAFO seized the opportunity of the Summit to bring the voice of African farmers to the world leaders and participants in the Summit: AfDB and African Central Banks; National political authorities; Regional and continental economic integration institutions and partners.
Considering the challenges faced by the continent, the Farmers’ Organizations (FOs) of Africa call for urgent and concrete actions to facilitate an investment that will ensure a more resilient, sustainable, and sovereign food accessible to all. An inclusive approach involving all food system actors is urgently required. To implement food security initiatives without the active participation of farmers’ organizations at all levels as full partners in a discussion on food sovereignty, without farmers as equal partners.
