C4D Capacity Development Day

The C4D Network in partnership with UNICEF, Reading University & Westminster University will host a Communication for Development (C4D) Capacity Development Seminar March 15 at Westminster University, London. 

This seminar is part the first C4D Capacity Development Day which aims to present an update on and examples of current practice, offerings and lessons learned in the area of C4D Capacity Development.  Participants will discuss and assess the C4D capacity development landscape, broad trends and challenges, and ambitions going forward.

Sessions will include shared learning and interactive discussions covering the following topics:

  • Overview of C4D landscape
  • The C4D Capacity Landscape I – UN Multilateral Level: UNICEF
  • The C4D Capacity Landscape II– Academia 
  • The C4D Capacity Landscape III – Professional skills and short courses 
  • What are the skills required for a C4D professional
  • Opportunities for advancement in C4D

Among the speakers, Rafael Obregon, Chief and Neha Kapil, lead on Capacity Development, of the UNICEF C4D Division, will discuss UNICEF’s strategic thinking about capacity in communication for development, and their focus on collaborations and offerings in this area as a result of extensive global knowledge of C4D needs and contexts. Representatives of the Ørecomm alliance, Westminster University (UK), Reading University (UK) and other academic institutions will contribute as well. 

The sessions will look at some of the emerging opportunities for professional skills development in C4D, including short courses and online training, and briefly explore the opportunities for advancement in the C4D sector for recent graduates and for consultants and others at different levels of experience in C4D. 

The seminar will be followed by an informal Networking Event 5.30-8pm, open to all guests.
